BiblioPG: Pedro Grases Library mobile app
In 2016 I completed my university studies at the Metropolitana University, Caracas, Venezuela. I obtained an honorable mention in my thesis, with the development of a mobile application for the Pedro Grases Library.
Project Overview
BiblioPG is a mobile app that allows to consult the catalog of books to know its availability, view the book loans of each user. The app can notify about loan returns, and the fines generated by delay in the delivery of resources. Also, the app has a chatroom to have customer service from the library.
The Challenge
Develop a mobile application that allows the university community to take advantage of the service offered by the Pedro Grases Library of the Metropolitan University. In this way, users have the possibility of accessing library services in a timely manner. These services include the consultation of the catalog of books and thesis, with the option of obtaining the digital document. Also, view the loans with their relevant information and receive notifications about the return date and fines generated. As a result of this thesis, it was possible to develop a tool that provides benefits to the university community, in such a way that it encourages the use of the library while satisfying the needs of its users through the mobile application.
As a main challenge, a REST API was developed and its include a functionality for extracting the data of the resources through the database handler WinIsis.
Finally, the thesis was presented in 2016 and received a special recognition for the great work done. Furthermore, due to the approach taken by the tool this improves the processes of the Pedro Grases Library.
The Approach & Solution
One of the reasons why most libraries have been the main recipients of technological innovations, are the number of tasks required by library services, since in particular loans of resources such as books, magazines, among others are activities routines that require controlled monitoring of their management. Consequently, these tasks should be automated in order to maintain an organization and satisfy the needs and expectations of its users. Therefore, BiblioPG allows users of the library have the option of using this electronic means to consult the bibliographic resources and instantly obtain information updated of the availability and physical location of these.
This project is in constant development and we are available to listen to proposals to grow up.
